Recession and Recession-Proofing Your Business And Your Life

By now you have heard people talking about how to recession-proof your business, job, life, etc. You read it in the newspapers, hear it on the radio and television, and receive emails about it. This happens every fifteen years or so and I am now old enough to have gone through this more than twice during my lifetime. I am reacting now as I did in the past - I pay absolutely no attention to it at all. The only reason I am writing about it here is to tell you why I work exclusively online now:

There is no Recession on the Internet!

I teach people how to write articles and eBooks and use the technology needed to run a business from their home computer. I have clients on 6 continents and we are all doing well. So, if you are looking for a way to recession-proof your life, do as much business as you possibly can to the global economy and from your home. You will leave a smaller carbon footprint, make more money, and enjoy your life a lot more. Visit me over at Ebook Writing and Marketing Secrets to find out how to get started. You can join me for my free weekly teleseminar and see what you think.

An Action Plan For Your Small Business

As an entrepreneur, you must have an action plan to move your business to the next level. It is a good idea to look at your profits and activities on a monthly or quarterly basis to see what is working for you and what you need to improve.

My business is done entirely online, so I look at things like the number of people who are joining my list, the amount of money I make from offering a teleseminar course, and a variety of other things that affect my bottom line. I then take action to improve my revenue streams, decrease my overhead, and help me to build a business that I look forward to doing each day. For example, I have found that article writing and marketing, along with blogging, make a huge difference in building my business. Take a look at your business and answer the following questions:

  • What single action could I take today that would help me to attract new prospects and clients?
  • How should I spend my time each day in order to accomplish more of what makes me money?
  • What could I outsource to someone else to free up my time to develop my business in a way that will work for me?

When you spend some time answering these questions you will be able to formulate an action plan to take your business to the next level very quickly.

The Cubicle is 40 Years Old

The cubicle, those little enclosures that people are assigned to when they work for other people's companies, is coming up on its 4oth birthday soon. I was reading about knowing when to leave your day job over at Escape From Cubicle Nation. Pamela Stewart-Slim gives us 7 questions to ask when considering the leap from employee to entrepreneur. She gives a very thorough discussion of this issue that I recommend reading.

It is not easy to make this change in your life, but it is definitely possible. Make a plan, gather a team, and go for your dream. If you are currently reading this post from your cubicle, consider that you don't have to be there. Most entrepreneurs were just where you are and have now change their lives and their income. It doesn't happen overnight, but it can and will happen for you if that is what you want.
